Raised by a Single Parent

By Fadaka O' Adetu

Parenting is and will remain the foundation and pillar for a prosperous society. This is because parenting serves at the grassroots of empowering, nurturing, and impacting children with the skills and values before sending them into the world. Our societies are filled with people who are products of either good or bad parenting. So to truly have peace in our societies, we need to prioritize parenting. Unfortunately, when two people who are perceived to be in love break away either by choice or by unexpected life events, the people that suffer the most are the kids. This is because kids depend on parents for guidance, psychological needs, financial needs, and in so many ways. Being raised by a single parent can have an unbelievable impact on you that you might not even be aware of. The reason is very simple- A man thinking is different from a woman and likewise their gender challenges. This is not to say that there are no people who were raised by a single parent and are doing absolutely amazing. What you should watch out for are those limiting values you have picked up as a result of being raised by a single parent. So how do you do this?

1. Question your belief about relationship and marriage

2. Question your belief on trust when dealing with an opposite sex

3. Question your belief about your choice of partner

4. Question your belief on raising kids and parenting

The list can go on and on but you can start with these ones. Being raised by a single parent can shape your life in an unthinkable way. You have the power to reshape your life if you choose to. To do this, start by questioning everything!

I hope you find this useful. Kindly drop your thought in the comment below.
