The Black Lives Matter Movement and the Way Forward

By Fadaka O' Adetu

It is pleasant to see the acceptance Black Americans are receiving all over the world with the Black Life Matter Movement. As we have all seen over the decades how the fight for freedom has taken a different dimension, so also is the systemic racism reshaping itself. It is highly commendable to see the charitable donation across the world for the George Floyd Family. Finally, the fight for true freedom of the Blacks across the world has not only gained the attention of mainstream media but has also attracted solidarity support of people from different backgrounds. Now is the time. However, If the lives of Blacks truly matter, it is then important to direct focus on building universities, schools, hospitals, and other facilities that less privileged Blacks and minority groups in the US can access. To protest for equality is good, building the necessary capacity to occupy key positions is highly important. Systemic racism does not give way overnight, it takes years of persistent pressure to break it up.
