Swedish woman in her 70s was arrested on Monday on suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty and grievous bodily harm in relation to her son, 41, according to the Swedish newspaper Expressen.
She is accused of holding him prisoner at an apartment block south of Stockholm, prosecutors say.
The man was found inside the flat by a relative on Sunday after they discovered his mother had been admitted to hospital.
On hearing the news, he went to the apartment and found the door unlocked.
The relative told the newspaper there was "urine, dirt and dust" everywhere and the man was sitting on a blanket with no teeth and sores on his legs.
