Depression: Symptoms, Sign, Causes, Treatment & Risk Factors

Depression is a constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest, which stop you doing your normal daily activities. There are different types of depression with symptoms ranging from relatively minor to severe.

General depression dose not results from a single event but from mix of event and factors. Depression is also a mood disorder which causes a persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest in things and activities. 

TYPES OF DEPRESSION

(1) MAJOR DEPRESSION DISORDER (MDD): Is a mood disorder characterised by a number of key features

 (1) Depress mood

 (11) Lack of interest in activities normally enjoyed.

(111) Change in weight

(1V) Change in sleep 

(V) Fatigue If a person experience the majority of this symptoms for longer than a two week period ,they will be often be diagnosed with (MDD)

(2) PERSISTENT DEPRESSIVE DISORDER (PDD)people might experience brief period ls of not feeling depressed but this relief of symptoms lasts for two month or less. PDD symptoms includes. 

(1) Feeling of sadness.

(11) Loss of interest and pleasure

 (111) Anger and irritability 

(1V) Feeling of guilt 

(V) Low self Esteem 

(V1) Change in appetite

(3) BIPOLAR DISORDERshifts that can often affect a woman's moods. Depression can have its onset during pregnancy or following the birth of a child.. Symptoms can include

 (1) Low mood feeling of sadness 

(11)Severe mood swings 

(111) Social withdrawal

(1V) Appetite change

(V) Loss of interest in things you used to enjoy

 (V1) Thought of Suicide

(4) POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION (PPD)

(5) PREMENSTRUAL DYSPHORIC DISORDER (PMDD) : Among the most common symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) are irritability fatigue, anxiety, food cravings and breast tenderness. PMDD symptoms includes... (1) Extreme fatigue (11) Irritability (111) Feelings sad and hopeless. (1V) Food cravings or binging (V) Several feelings of stress or anxiety.

(6) SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (SAD): If you experience depression, sleepiness and weight again during the winter month but fell perfectly fine in springs you may have a condition know as seasonal affective disorder. Prevalence rates for SAD can be difficult to pinpoint because the conditions often goes undiagnosed and unreported 

 WHAT YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT DEPRESSION ARE 

 (1) Try to keep doing activities you used to enjoy

(2) Stay connected to friends and families

 (3) Exercise regularly, even if it's just a short walk

(4) Stick to regular eating and sleeping habits as much as possible

 (5) Avoid or cut down on alcohol and don't use Illicit drugs ,which can make depression worse. Thank you for listening.
