CHILD NEGLECT
A child can be said to be any person under development, usually within birth age till age 18.
Child neglect is a situation when a parent or caregiver to a child fails to provide the basic needs of a child.
BASIC NEEDS OF A CHILD
1. Physical needs: These are food, water, shelter, clothing, and healthcare.
2. Emotional needs: These needs are love, attention and emotional support.
3. Educational needs: These include access to education and opportunities for cognitive development.
4. Supervision and safety: That is, adequate supervision and protection from harm.
FORMS OF CHILD NEGLECT
1. Physical neglect: Failure to provide adequate food, shelter or health care.
2. Emotional neglect: Failure to provide emotional support or attention.
3. Educational neglect: Failure to ensure access to education.
4. Psychological neglect: Failure to provide a stable and nurturing environment.
CONCLUSION
Child neglect can have serious and long-lasting effects on a child's physical, emotional, and psychological development such as; poor physical health, emotional and behavioural problems, cognitive delays, low self-esteem and difficulty forming healthy relationships.
